I Love anywhere by the ocean

modeling paste, acrylic, paper and ink on wood.

size 2 x 3,5 x 1,5  inches

Sometime ago while walking on Ocean Beach with Mona I found this cute piece of wood, nice shape and nice surface. I took it home, sanded it and waited for the right kind of inspiration to come along.

Doll. Water Mixable Oil, ink and acrylic on wooden panel. 12x16 in

Doll
12x16 inches
oil, ink and acrylic on wooden panel

Here is my last painting finished :)

The hair are and the flowers are ink and acrylic while the face is painted with water mixable oil,
a new kind of oil painting I am using now. Different from the standard oil painting, as their name says they are water mixable therefore they are not toxic.
Easier to clean but more difficult to use.  At least for me . They dry faster and they are more stickier....but since they are stickier is also easier to leave brush stroke marks, which i like.

Have a good Saturday everyone!

Sketches from last night, clothed figure drawing class.

20 minutes pose
pencil and ink

Another Wednesday afternoon/evening drawing away :)

As usual we start our class with 2 minutes poses followed by 5 min, 10 min and finally 20 minutes poses.
I have to say my favorite re the two minutes and the 20 minutes.
The 2 minutes are quick, you do not have time to waste in details, a gesture and few small adds, time is out.
On the other hand in the 20 minute you have plenty of time to play around with ink, colors or pencils, you can also mvd around the room looking for the best able to draw.

Here are some of the drawing from yesterday:

2 minutes
5 minutes

20 minutes

Weather update from Ocean Beach.
It has been raining no-stop since early morning.
I am at the 5th bucket of water now...out living room door is licking!!!!!

The day can only can better!!!

Stay dry everyone! :)

My portrait of Picasso from a picture by Arnold Newman.

This is my last chiaroscuro assignment finally completed, after almost one month.

18x24 inches
charcoal

The original b&w picture was taken by the American photographer Arnold Newman.
His B&W portraits are currentlypresented at the Contemporary Jewish Museum of San Francisco.
An awesome  exhibition, a MUST SEE.
http://www.thecjm.org/on-view/currently/arnold-newman-masterclass/about
Differently for the photographer before him  Newman focuses on the sitter's habitat. Revealing personality and character not through physiognomy (the principle of classic portraiture ) but through the things artist gathered around them.

Here is Picasso picture before the chosen crop:

Newman crops it :)

Me and the original photo! Selfie :)

Work in progress, from the sketch to the wooden panel

Back to something fun this weekend!
I am only left with the final touches on my Picasso portrait( .....will complete it tomorrow!) so today I treated myself with something I love.....which is drawing faces, as you well know ;)

I really enjoyed doing my last painting on wood and I am planning to so something along the same lines, ink and oil together.
This time i will be using a different kind of oil, a water soluble type. They works differently from the standard ones...hopefully I ll get the same result!

Here is the sketch I did today:

I am starting to draw it on wood right now:

But having a break soon, off to the cinema today! Will keep working on it tomorrow.
Happy Sunday everyone!

Few sketches from last night figure drawing class.

Today I am posting some of the long poses sketches from yesterday figure drawing class.
The class start with 2 minutes, 5 minutes and 10 minutes long pose.
During the second part of the day we move into longer poses of 20 minutes, here are some of those :)

By the end of the class the model was exhausted...look at her face in the last drawing!
But she did an amazing job! I have to say, she was my favorite model till now.

Working the final touches on my Picasso drawing today, posting it tomorrow!
Happy thursday everyone!

How to wear a twilly !

A twilly is a thin version of a scarf that can be tied in a lot of different ways. Very chic!!
Planning to get one myself soon, I especially love the idea of tie my hair with it :)

Update from Ocean Beach: super rain today but after the storm .... a beautiful rainbow

Cloudy again now...taking the puppy out for a short walk!
Have a good evening everyone!
